Amateur (ham) radio is the largest active community using Morse code today. The FCC eliminated the Morse code requirement for U.S. amateur licenses in 2007, but CW (continuous wave Morse) remains a popular mode because it gets through where voice cannot. Words like antenna, receiver, transmitter, frequency, propagation, and callsign are everyday ham radio vocabulary. CW operators communicate at 15 to 35 WPM routinely, with contest operators pushing 40 WPM or higher.
